Calling All Irish Makers Who Run Workshops!

Do you run workshops , big or small, where people can learn, tinker, and create? We’d love to hear from you! At Makerland.ie , we’re building a new space to showcase workshops happening across the country. Why? Because we know how much time and love you put into running them  and we want to make sure people can actually find you . Too often, brilliant workshops go unseen simply because the right people didn’t know they were happening. We want to change that by creating one simple place where makers and learners can connect. So if you’re running a workshop (or thinking of starting one), please get in touch. We’ll list your events for free, spread the word, and help more people discover the joy of making while helping you fill those seats and grow your community. Drop us a message at makerlandire@gmail.com, and let’s get your workshops seen! Let’s make Ireland’s maker community stronger, together. 💚

I’ve Been Spending Too Much Time on My Phone… and I Miss Being Creative

Lately, I’ve noticed something. I pick up my phone to check one message… and suddenly an hour has passed. Instagram, TikTok, endless scrolling. And when I finally put the phone down, I don’t feel inspired. I feel drained. The truth is: I miss being creative. Scrolling is easy  but it doesn’t fill me up the way making something does. Creativity feels different. When I’m making, even if it’s just doodling on a page or trying a new recipe, I feel more alive, calmer, and prouder of myself than I ever do after an evening lost in my phone. And here’s the thing: creativity doesn’t have to be perfect. It doesn’t have to be good. It doesn’t even have to make sense. The point is that you switch off the noise and give yourself permission to create. So today, I’m challenging myself (and maybe you too) to put the phone down for a little while and try something anything creative instead. Write a messy journal page. Cook something new with what you already have in the cupboard. ...

5 Ways Creative Workshops Help with Stress, Anxiety, and Burnout

Why getting your hands messy might be the best thing for your mental health right now Lately, I’ve found myself craving moments of quiet. Not silence exactly, but space. Space to breathe, to reset, to do something with my hands that doesn’t involve a screen or a schedule or a deadline. Maybe you know the feeling too. Between the emails, the group chats, the to-do lists that never end... it’s easy to feel a bit fried. Like your brain’s on overdrive and your body is just trying to keep up. For me, creativity has always been the thing that brings me back, especially when I’m feeling tired, stressed, overwhelmed, or just plain worn out. That’s a big part of why we’re building Makerland.ie. Creative workshops aren’t just about making lovely things (though that’s a bonus). They’re about making space  for calm, for connection, for something real. They can be little pockets of presence in an otherwise chaotic week. So if you’ve been feeling a bit off, a bit scattered, or a bit like yo...

Why Creativity Matters More Than Ever (Especially Locally)

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about why this whole thing Makerland.ie matters. Why we’re doing it, why I care so much, and what’s actually at the heart of it all. And for me, it comes down to this: Creativity is more important now than ever. Especially the kind that happens locally in community halls, shared studios, kitchen tables, and makeshift workspaces tucked behind shops. In a world that’s moving faster and feeling more digital by the day, I think we’re all craving something real. Something hands-on. Something that reminds us we’re not just here to scroll and consume but to make , to share, to connect. There’s something kind of magical about sitting down to create something from scratch. You forget your phone for a bit. You focus. You use your hands. You learn something new. You get a little messy. And for a while, you’re just… there . Fully present. And that’s rare these days, isn’t it? I know for me, the act of creating whether it's trying to remember how to knit...
